Brimming with museums, theaters, and stadiums, the city of Chicago presents a world of culture and entertainment, one that can often seem untouchable to the low-budget college student. Fortunately, the Second City takes pity on its scholarly citizens by offering student discounts at some of its most prominent hotspots and locations throughout the year.

From Picasso to Pollock, students can view priceless works of art year-round for hardly any money at all at The Art Institute of Chicago. One of the top art museums in the world, The Art Institute offers its Illinois collegiate guests a 20% discounted fee of $14.00 with the presentation of a student ID.

For the avid history buff, both the Field Museum and the Museum of Science and Industry offer discounted student prices for museum entry as well as membership. According to its website, the Field Museum offers a 20% discount for its Basic, Discovery, and All-Access passes to students who present their valid student IDs. The museum also provides a discounted museum membership of $70 for one year and $130 for two years.

While the Museum of Science and Industry does not provide single-day discounted admission, like the Field Museum, it does offer a generous discounted membership fee of $70 for the Individual year-long membership package, which includes free museum entry for you and one guest as well as other perks year-round.

Theater-goers may also take advantage of student discounted performances. Throughout the year, select Broadway shows in Chicago will participate in the program TIX4STUDENTS, a membership that provides college students with online access to purchase student discounted tickets for live events offered by participating partners in New York and Chicago.

For the college student friendly fee of $5.00 as well as the verification of one’s current student status, you will receive a one-year membership, in which TIX4STUDENTS will update you on the most recent student offers from the venues of some of the top live events in the city, including Blue Man Group and Broadway shows.

Sports fans can also save a buck or two in the windy city while still catching Stanley Cup action from the stands. Throughout the year, the Chicago Blackhawks offers their Student Club Ticket Program, in which students can receive discounted prices for select home games with the verification of a student ID. According to the Hawks’ official website, about ninety minutes prior to select home games, students can purchase $25 tickets for any remaining seat for that night’s event.

The only catch for this remarkable deal: the home game of this Stanley Cup Champion team must not be sold out. However, when such once-in-a-lifetime odds do occur and seats are actually available, these discounted tickets will be sold at windows 6 and 7 outside Gate 4 of the United Center, where students are encouraged to line up three hours early to ensure they will receive a ticket at the best locations.

The next Student Club Game will be held Tuesday, January 10 at 7:30 PM in which the Hawks will face off against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Text STUDENT to BHAWKS (242957) to receive Student Club text alerts on upcoming games.

No matter what you’re interested in, (sports, art, history, or science, or even all of the above) have no fear as The Windy City has it all, sometimes at a discounted rate.
