Fashion of the stars: a look at Oscar night attire

Whether you missed the Oscars this year or are feeling the need to relish in the recent red carpet moments, here are five red carpet looks from the big night that stood out amongst the stars. While some celebrities played it safe and stuck to their classic style, others took out of the ordinary fashion risks, and as per usual, are rocking analytical discussions in the fashion world.

Simple yet striking, Jennifer Aniston arrived on the red carpet wearing a Versace gown paired with somewhat modest accessories. While last year Aniston opted for a contrasting bright red Valentino dress, this season she went a bit trendier, picking the color nude as well as selecting a dress with sequins. Nonetheless, Anniston still kept a similar theme of simplicity wearing, again, under stated accessories and her signature simple but sophisticated hair. According to the fashion gurus at E Online, they were happy to see Aniston stray away from a classic black dress. “We are thrilled that the actress continued her colorful (just say no to LBDs) streak but we’re even more excited she did so with this sparkling nude Versace number.” To see a picture of Aniston’s dress visit here.

Lupita Nyong’O, a young actress known for her eccentric style and willingness to take fashion risks, wore a custom made Calvin Klein collection gown. Therefore, it was no surprise to see her draped in a rather unique dress made almost entirely of pearls. The stylists at yahoo write, “The floor-length white gown (this season’s hottest color) is coated with over 6,000 pearls. In fact, from waist up it’s basically jewelry.”

Recently known for her role in Gone Girl, Rosamund Pike chose a vibrant red textured Givenchy gown accompanied by elegant strappy red heels, limited jewelry, and an effortlessly chic hair. The Nydailynews.com says, “Rosamund Pike may have found herself on the worst dress list time and time again this awards season, but the ‘Gone Girl’ had arguably one of the best looks of the evening when she donned an absolutely ravishing red Givenchy gown at the 87th Academy Awards.”

Much like Aniston, Gwyneth Paltrow stayed close to her signature style at this year’s Academy Awards. Wearing a muted pink (a color fashion lovers are raving over) Ralph and Russo gown, Paltrow mirrors a similar look to last year’s modern and sleek dress. Although she has sported pink on the red carpet before (i.e. Ralph Lauren circa 1999), this year she updated her look with a sharp Ralph and Russo look.

Reese Witherspoon donned a put together look in her black and white Tom Ford evening gown. This eye catching attire was accessorized with a few statement pieces and glamorously-sleek curls. Experts at E Online wrote, “All year long the Wild actress has impressed us with clean and classic designs and tonight (in Tom Ford) was no different.”

Almost every award show Scarlett Johansson manages to shock viewers with her edgy style; each time it is something new and different. This year Johansson follows in suit wearing an emerald green Versace gown with a matching statement necklace (a popular trend on the red carpet this year). Her short and shaved hair style definitely shocked onlookers as well, and added to her edgy Oscar appeal.

All in all, this year at the 87th Academy Awards, the red carpet welcomed a variety of new trends and fashions that have the fashion world still talking.
