Social Media Celebrity: Domo Wilson goes viral with comical blogs

It takes organic talent and a video camera to make a living through blogging on social media. For 20-year-old Domo Wilson, a high-energy personality and a good observation about life is also a must if you want to become an Internet sensation.

Born in Chicago, Wilson is an entertainer who performs music and comedy routines from her home in Valparaiso, Ind to all around the United States. She is best known for her weekly blogs on her Facebook page, which has obtained more than one million followers.

What exactly are her videos about? Her main topics revolve around the life of the average teenager or young adult and the many complications that come with it. From relationships to friendships to surviving conflicts with parents, Wilson covers it all.  Once her latest video is posted, the caption will describe what life situation will be covered. Some of her most popular videos include “When girls are on their periods,” “When I forget to bring my phone into the bathroom” and “When people hit on other people knowing that they’re in a relationship.”

In each video, Wilson does one of two things. She will either personally rant about the topic herself or she will personally demonstrate a  topic through a scenario. For example, one situation could be about a mother bickering at her daughter to clean her room. Wilson uses her vital emotions to relate to teenagers all around the country who deal with issues like that. If she chooses to demonstrate a situation, she will create a video pretending to be the mom and the daughter and mash them together so it looks like a conversation between two people.

Of course, Wilson is no perfect human being. After coming out of the closet through a “Q&A” video on YouTube, fans of her video blog can now understand the meaning behind her fashion style of tattoos, male clothing and snapback hats. This is what I admire about the McDonald’s-loving blogger.  She honors who she is with no shame and full comfortability of showing her true colors to the world.

Viewers, such as adults today, see that as an unnecessary exposure of privacy. But there are many high school and even college students who are afraid to react to certain issues that are bothering them. Wilson is a celebrity that represents everyone going through hard times and helps both genders understand one another. She doesn’t make everything serious by any means; her comical element initializes encores of applause.

What’s even better is that she performs live at several venues all throughout the U.S., entertaining her millions of fans and making everyone laugh. Wilson posts a video at least once a week on her Facebook page “Domo Wilson.” You can also find her on Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and YouTube.
