APRIL 26, 2015 – North Central picked up their 30th win along with their fourth loss of the season on Sunday against the Augustana College Vikings for their senior day.

The Cardinals (30-4, 11-3 CCIW) picked up a 4-0 victory over the Vikings (23-12-1, 5-7 CCIW) in shut out fashion.  Andrea Starr pitched her sixth shut out of the season and advanced to 18-2 overall.

Scoring for North Central began when Starr hit a base hit up the first base line moving Carly Trenhaile who reached first on a bunt to second base.  Amanda Walker would then score Trenhaile on a double to right field.

The Cardinals capitalized on a sixth inning fielding error made by the Vikings when Jordyn Beck hit in an RBI with a single that snuck between the shortstop and second baseman up the middle.  With the bases loaded, Cecie Portillo battled at the plate for a walk scoring the final run to make the score 4-0 for the win.

In the second bout between the Cardinals and Vikings, both teams were quiet until the second inning when Augustana knocked in three runs.

The Cardinals would fight back scoring two runs in the top of the third with solo homeruns by Portillo and Kirsten Tinkoff.  After a scoreless bottom half of the third, North Central gained the lead with one unearned run on an error and a single to right field by Portillo.

Four runs did not prove to be enough as Augustana scored another three against the Vikings in the bottom of the fourth.  The Vikings finished off their victory over the Cardinals with a score of 6-4.

Cardinal softball will continue this Thursday in a doubleheader against Aurora University.  The action will begin at 3 p.m. here in Naperville at Shanower Family Field to finish out the regular season.  The CCIW Tournament is set to begin this Friday, May 1.
