‘Mathletes’ take full advantage of study spot

Attending North Central, students know that the relations they build with professors are definitely stronger than any other school out there. Liberal arts schools have small enough class sizes that allow students and professors to connect on more than the education level.

North Central College’s science and math departments include many rigorous courses that challenge students to their fullest. Being a math student at North Central means more than attending class at the given time and then returning to the dorms for hours of work.

For one student, Rebecca Rachan, being a math student means countless hours of homework at the most beneficial study spot in Goldspohn for “mathletes.” Right outside of Dr. Niel, Professor Marco, and Dr. Wilders’ offices, Rachan takes full advantage of her study spot. In the event of being stuck on a problem or struggling to start homework, professors encourage Rachan to strive for greatness.

Tucked in the corner of Goldspohn, these professors’ doors are wide open; welcoming anyone who has questions or concerns. This means Rachan has full access to these professors without needing to move from her seat. These relations allow her to utilize this study spot in the whole 10-week term every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Others see this as a great tool for effective studying as well. For math majors Danielle and Dana, these students have found this spot surrounding professors as an advantage.

Overall, great atmosphere in Goldspohn for professors and students provides a support system that not only helps with assignments, but offers inspiration to follow dreams.
