The mission of two colleges will soon unite, as North Central has begun the acquisition process of Shimer College.

North Central College’s president, Dr. Troy Hammond was contacted, but was unable to comment on the Shimer acquisition by deadline.

Despite his unavailability to comment, Hammond’s presence on Twitter shows his enthusiasm toward the memorandum of understanding (MOU).

After announcing the plan, Hammond took to Twitter saying, “Excited to work with colleagues @ShimerCollege toward a #BrilliantFuture on our campus #LiberalArts @SmartColleges.”

Hammond’s feelings appeared to also be shared by the president of Shimer College, Susan Henking.

Henking told the Naperville Sun in anticipation of the unification of NCC and Shimer that it is an opportunity, “to sustain our mission in a new context, continuing to provide an excellent liberal arts education rooted in close reading of primary texts and a discussion-based pedagogy.”

Continuing on, Henking said she looks forward to the merger with North Central College.

According to the Shimer College website, Shimer is a tight-knit community where all voices are heard, where they explore core values in three classical disciplines – humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences – as well as integrative studies.

Hammond told the Naperville Sun that he is excited to have the Shimer community join the NCC family.
