Welcome back to NCC … and ‘stuff’

North Central College students return to classes with a vengeance, or, more like “so far it’s been good … and stuff.” From randomly sampled students, opinions on how their first day went varied from feeling prepared to being more at ease about classes so far. Avoiding early classes and complaining about parking were other themes as NCC begins another school year.

Sophmore Dustin Nguyen spoke with the Chronicle at the White Activities Center about his first day back:

What classes did you have and how was your first day so far? “I am in a class called Group Process. My group name right now is the Harambes, we have to take a controversial topic.

Do you live on campus? “No I am a commuter, I commute 30 minutes.”

So how was parking today? “Horrible, my class is in Goldsphon and I parked right next to Seager.”

veronica-wagnerVeronica Wagner spoke with the Chronicle outside Old Main about her first day back:

What classes did you have and how was your first day so far? “First day, I was well prepared, I had summer reviews that I had to do so I did those. I was very well prepared for my science classes.”

Any classes that you are looking forward to? “Genetics.”

emily-cardiSophmore Emily Cardi also spoke with The Chronicle outside Old Main:

What classes have you had (today)? “I had French 1 Elementary.”

And how was it? “It was good. It was a lot of you know she started off speaking French and I had no idea what was happening. I didn’t know any French beforehand. We kind of picked up on it after a few minutes cause it is just a lot of repeating introductory phrases and things like that.”

How does this year compare to last year? “Last year I got to class 20 minutes or so beforehand because I didn’t know where any of the classrooms were, all of the buildings and stuff. But now it’s like I got there really early because I already knew where the classes were.”

brian-rotundoSenior Brian Rotundo:

What classes have you had (today)? “This morning I had Biology 350; it’s conservation biology, following that I had advanced writing.”

Anything different about this year that was harder or easier than first days in the past? “I think it’s definitely easier. A lot of the core classes for like sophomore and junior year biology, It’s pretty tough. You know you got Genetics and all that stuff. We’re kind of like over the hump you know. We are just taking more of the classes that we are interested in.”

jack-weinburgSenior Jack Weinberg also commented:

“My first class of the day is at 10:40 also which beats last year when it was 9:20, so I was waking up and had to get s— done immediately and I don’t like waking up early, so 10:40 works a lot better for me. I get to kind of do stuff in the early morning that I couldn’t do before. My class is an easy psych class first off and then I have an hour off until the next class, so it is a really easy schedule for me.”
