Falling for fall fashion

1

Fall is fashion’s favorite time of the year — you have fresh new trends and runway shows to pull inspiration from and it’s cool enough to wear more than shorts and a T-shirt. So let’s talk about what’s trending this season on and off the runways:

Denim is always a given for fall. August and September issues of Vogue, Glamour and InStyle are filled with pages on the best jeans for your butt, the new denim styles and how to pull off a Canadian tuxedo. This season, we’re seeing many models and street style stars sporting a cropped, straight leg style. The more unfinished at the hem, the better.

Cropped flare jeans are a style on the rise. Pair them with lace-up flats or booties to emulate street style stars. “Mom jeans” are still trending as well with their high-rise waist and tapered leg. This style can be found at almost any store, but can also be discovered in the back of your mom’s closet or at your local thrift store.

Another popular denim trend is the denim jacket, specifically an oversized jacket. While these have been in style for many seasons, we’re seeing a new twist this fall with personalizing your jacket. We’ve seen this on models like Gigi Hadid who have their name displayed on the back. If you’re not into that, try adding some pins and patches to make your jacket unique this fall.

While we’re on the topic of jackets, there are other styles that are going to be huge this fall. Bomber jackets are still flying high this season with many bloggers and street style stars still choosing this style to top off their looks. If you’re looking for something edgier for the cooler season, a biker jacket in patent leather or vinyl may be for you. This fabric with shine will upgrade your style from basic to badass.

If you want to elevate your look even further, try adding some velvet into your wardrobe as the temperatures begin to drop. A velvet dress or booties are easy items to incorporate into your wardrobe and can be worn with that oversized denim jacket or paired with those mom jeans.

The ‘90s is still showing its influence this season with items like mom jeans and choker necklaces, but say hello to plenty of ‘70s-inspired clothing this fall. Designers like Alice + Olivia chose bright ‘70s prints and simple silhouettes to give nod to the groovy decade while others kept it more subtle with some suede, fringe and bohemian vibes.

Spice up your wardrobe this fall with some of these on-trend pieces. If you are not wanting to spend major cash for a passing fad, fast-fashion brands like Forever 21, H&M and Zara turn out runway-inspired pieces almost weekly for a low cost to you.

However, if you find a trend you absolutely love and is completely your style, invest in a piece that you’ll wear often. Think about cost-per-wear for each item and it helps justify why you’re buying those awesome jeans.
