Turning over a new leaf: activities for fall

0

Fall is the time that most people look forward to after the constant, overbearing August heat. It is a welcoming hug of pumpkin spice and everything nice; letting us know that it’s OK to lay around and watch infinite amounts of Netflix and have that extra piece of pizza.

Here are some other fun things to look forward to this fall that will make you want to leave your couch:

The classic choice: apple picking

The best part about going to the apple orchard is that you don’t even need to like apples; it’s all about the experience. Take your time grazing through the rows of apple trees with your closest friends or family. This is also a great option for a first date, and there is no better time to find a boyfriend or girlfriend right before all the major holidays. Make sure you stop in the bakery (no matter which one you go to, this exists) and get some apple cider donuts, pies and some fresh apple cider served iced or steamy.

Suggested spots: County Line Orchard or Honey Hill Orchard.

Host a Friendsgiving

If you like spending time with your friends and/or eating a lot of food, Friendsgiving is for you. This special event takes place on any day your friends and you are available within a two week window of Thanksgiving, and consists of everyone bringing their own dish to pig out on an amazing feast (without your weird aunt asking you if you’re dating anyone yet). Create your own decor, plan some wholesome activities and gobble the night away.

1st Annual Naperville Pumpkin Race Festival

img_3163If you’re craving a little bit of competition in your life, grab some friends and take part in this wild pumpkin race right here in Naperville. With a $20 donation to the Turning Pointe Autism Foundation, you get yourself the “pumpkin kit” and create your race car which will take your jack-o-lantern to victory. The event takes place on Oct. 15 at Rotary Hill, right off the riverwalk. Admission for watching the race is free, if your college budget is running a little short.

Spooky ghost tour

For those looking to get into the Halloween spirit, a ghost tour provides you with the right amount of fright to start off the season. If you are creeped out easily, it’s probably best to bring along some friends for moral support. There are a few ghost tour services in Naperville that take you all around the Downtown area and neighborhoods. Bring your scary movies to life, but you might not sleep for a while.

Make the best of your fall activities while you can, because we all know that once Thanksgiving hits, everything turns to winter.
