Brains and meat

The meat of your future might not come from a cow or chicken – but from a lab. Good Food Institute has been funding research for scientists to grow meat in labs in order to eliminate the need for the slaughter of animals.

Earthquakes in Nicaragua

Leon, Nicaragua was hit by a 4.3 earthquake just months after being rattled by a 6.1 magnitude earthquake in June.

Limitless pill

A pill that was once just fiction has become a real. A study drug called modafinil – but nicknamed the limitless pill – has been rising in Britain and overseas for students who use prescription pills to focus on homework. Modafinil is clinically proven to make people more alert and focused without being as intense as other study drugs, such as Ritalin which is prescribed for ADHD, but is often used by people who are not prescribed it. As far as experts know, modafinil is safe in the short-term.

Trans women in Mexico are getting killed

Despite the progressiveness in Mexico in regards to the LGBTQ community, trans women are still being targeted for crime in Latin and Central America. After a transgender woman was recently killed and her killer let go without any charges, protests have sprung up in Mexico City calling for police to pay attention to the ongoing killings of trans sex workers.

Anniesa Hasibuan makes fashion history

The Muslim fashion designer received a standing ovation at New York Fashion Week for her collection of 48 outfits that all included the Muslim article of clothing, the hijab. During a time where Muslim women are belittled and harassed for wearing the traditional garment, Hasibuan’s collection makes an important statement.

And one good thing that came out of election season…
