The North Central Cross-Country team sent a contingent of runners to the Wheaton College Invite this morning at St. James Farm in Warrenville. The Cardinals, who held back several of their varsity members, scored 33 points, placing second to Washington University (31 points), who are currently ranked fourth in the nation.
A pack of North Central runners, consisting of sophomores Aron Sebhat and Tim Vazquez, freshman Ethan Adlfinger, senior Ryan Thompson, and senior David Janet, were in a pack of 15 runners at the first mile. The front pack gradually strung out later in the race, with three Washington University runners pulling ahead of the field, chased by Sebhat and Vazquez, who were followed closely by Janet, Adlfinger and freshman Zach Plank.
The Cardinal runners closed strong, with Sebhat leading the charge in 4th place (24:57), close behind several Washington University runners. Following Sebhat were Vazquez in 5th (25:18), Janet in 6th (25:21), Adlfinger in 8th (25:35), junior Kevin McMahon in 10th (25:44), freshman Omar Gomez in 11th (25:47), and senior Matt Muth in 14th (25:52).
The Cardinals will compete at the College of Dupage Invitational this Friday.
