On Sunday Oct. 5 from 6-8 p.m., the Digital Media Club held an Artist’s Reception for their Movement Exhibition in Meiley-Swallow Hall.
The exhibition showcased the work of North Central students with the theme of movement. This is the first year that the Digital Media Club has held such a large exhibit, after having only an informal art show with the theme of growth last year.
For the movement exhibit, 12 students submitted work to be presented in a variety of mediums. According to Katelyn Emricson, who does marketing for the Digital Media Club, this is a large number of people to be showcased at one time.
“Most shows only showcase 2 or 4 students’ works, but we have an opportunity to show many more,” said Emricson.
Of the 12 artists and many pieces presented, there was a mixture of paintings, photographs, sculptures, and digital works. The depictions of movement in these pieces ranged from photographs representing fire, water, and ice, to digitally created scenery pieces, to a letter collage designed Emricson herself.
Emricson explained that there was a big push for graphic design students to submit their work in this event because “they don’t get a lot of opportunities to showcase their work on campus in a setting like this.” Overall, Emricson says that except for the few paintings and sculptures presented, almost all of the pieces showcased are considered graphic design. “It’s a great chance for the campus to see some of the work that the IMS majors do.”
With the impressive amount of submissions and variety of pieces and mediums represented in the showcase, Emricson explained that, “this exhibition is special because we [gave]all students an opportunity to submit their pieces.”
The Movement Exhibition showcase will remain in Meiley-Swallow until Sunday, Nov. 2.
