The latest exhibit to be presented at the Schoenherr Art Gallery at the Fine Arts Center in Wentz Concert Hall, is Kate Pszotka’s “Dual|Duel.”
Pszotka is a local artist, working out of the Chicagoland area. She holds an MFA in studio art from Mills College in Oakland, California, as well as a bachelor’s degree in studio art from North Central.
Pszotka’s exhibit explores the concept of living in a stable home, which stems from her own fascination with the idea. The exhibit also examines a sense of duality: every sculpture or installation in the exhibit has a counterpart. They can either be examined as two separate entities or as one whole concept. “Dual|Duel” delves into the minds of individuals—looking at their belongings and discovering what forms their identity.
Pszotka employs a variety of artistic materials, including ceramics, fiber, glass and cloth, creating a story that is truly something to behold. The sculptures includes a clothesline with women’s underwear pinned to it and balls of yarn enclosed under a roof of ceramic; this evokes a feeling of vulnerability and a sense of being at odds with one’s very own home.
The exhibit is free to the public and will be open to visitors from October 3 to December 7. In addition, Pszotka herself will be at Wentz Concert Hall on Saturday, November 1 to meet with the public and discuss her exhibit. The reception is free to attend and is open to the community.
The gallery hours to view “Dual|Duel” are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays.
