Homecoming is so much more than just the dinner and dance, but it is one of the most looked-forward to events of the week.
On Saturday, Oct. 18 the homecoming celebration and dance took place in Res/Rec.
“The one thing I definitely look forward to every year is the Homecoming Gala,” said Mickey Richards ‘15. “The food is always good, the music is good, and the atmosphere where current students and alumni mix is awesome.”
The mixture of food, dancing, and fun has a strong appeal for hardworking students who want to take a break from the late nights studying for midterms and other exams. This is the time for them to distress and unwind with their friends and the rest of the college.
“What I like most about homecoming is really seeing all my friends get all fancy and just being able to catch up and really take a break from thinking about classes,” said Marissa Bartz ‘15.
One of the biggest reasons for hosting a homecoming is to invite the alumni back for another ‘hoorah’ with their previous college classmates. Bringing the alumni back to North Central College gives current students a look at their future.
“It’s always nice to see friends who have graduated and the alumni of years past,” said Gina Leo ’15. “It’s also kind of crazy to think that in just a year, I’ll be an alumnus too.”
Overall the anticipation for the dance can be felt throughout campus, which comes from seeing the preparations throughout the week. Once Saturday closed in on students, the music started, the dresses were pulled out, and the suits were hung.
“I love feeling pretty and being able to dance with my friends. I’m also excited for the dinner,” said Maggie Fraser ‘15.
A lot of effort went in to setting up the dance floor, stage, table, and buffets as Res/Rec looked beautiful with red table cloths, flower center pieces, and cardboard telephone booths and Eiffel towers supporting the ‘Around the World’ theme.
Even the fire alarm that went off did not dampen the spirits of those who attended.
“I thought the vice president did a really great job introducing people and keeping us entertained during the alarm,” said Kayla Bartz ’15. “You can tell he really loves the school.”
The much anticipated dinner, which included food such as filet mignon, salmon, a mashed potato bar, dessert, and other delectable food, more than satisfied the attendees.
“The food was excellent,” said Bartz. “Also the band was very lively and energetic with a great variety of songs.”
This year’s dance really gave attendees the feel of coming together to celebrate the school they love and call home for four years.
“Homecoming dances are called Reunion Celebrations because that’s exactly what happened at last night’s dance,” said Francesca Cannizzaro ’15. “It’s a time for friends to celebrate together for a fun night of food and dancing.”
