Every month, several new art exhibits are put on display throughout campus for both students and community members to enjoy. With every new exhibit comes a unique collection; no two galleries are ever the same. Therefore, it’s no surprise the art exhibit “And, And, & And” follows suit.
Matthew Litteken, the artist of this particular exhibit, has much experience and knowledge in the various elements in the world of Fine Arts. Originally, Litteken attended the University of Miami, Ohio, and ultimately graduated with a double major in ceramics and painting. Then, he continued on to gain his Master of Fine Arts from the University of Cincinnati at the School of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning.
There his studies were focused on 2-dimensional art, which has shown through in his exhibit, “And, And, & And,” as it contains pieces that range in color, size, texture, and dimension. The collection of works, such as the pieces shown, maintain the general theme of consumerism and its relation to exploitation and money. Litteken’s broad artistic talents can be seen in the artwork, such as “The Market,” a darker, more ominous-looking piece that lacks a clear distinction of shape and identifiable currency compared to the lighter paintings that display bright, vivacious colors that can be noticeably identified as dollar bills. Observing Litteken’s artistic style that consistently works to convey his overall theme, but shows Litteken’s ability to vary his works in appearance is one of the definite highlights of this exhibit.
To view Litteken’s works, stop by the Oestrele Library Gallery, located on the second floor of the campus library. The exhibit is free and will conclude on Feb. 5 with an artist reception.
