For seniors, graduation is around the corner and that often means finding a job or graduate school. For those who have questions concerning the do’s and don’ts of acing professional interviews or the best way to apply for graduate school, an alumni discussion panel will be hosted at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday Feb. 10 at Smith Hall in Old Main. There is no charge for the event.
Four alumni panelists, who graduated with majors in human resources, will be present for the open question and answer session. The alumni hosts are Caitlin McBrien and Ale Alarcon, who graduated in 2013, and Jake Muszcynski and Theresa Dimonte, who graduated in 2014. Each of the graduates brings the employer perspective to the panel, allowing students to take an insider’s look at the hiring process.
“It isn’t just for human resource majors,” said senior Emma Ryan, president of the Student Human Resource Group.
Ryan expects that the majority of the panel questions will be geared toward obtaining a job out of college, whether it’s interviews, resume formatting and proper appearance. Other questions may include position salaries and follow-up letters and phone calls.
“I’m graduating in a couple of months,” said Ryan, who hopes to take away some knowledge herself. “I want to know the differences for an interview for a career position and an interview for an internship.“
Students who are more familiar with the hiring process have something to gain from attending as well.
“There will be a mingling period afterward for networking,” Ryan said.
Information on the event dictates that snacks will be provided.
