The College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) announced the 2014-2015 winter season student-athletes who earned Academic All-Conference honors, including 50 North Central College selections.

To be eligible for Academic All-Conference honors, a student-athlete must maintain a 3.30 grade-point average and earn their varsity letter.

Junior Jayme Moten was the lone representative from the men’s basketball team and sophomore Michael Bikulcius and senior Dylan Mahler earned honors for the grapplers. The men’s track and field team produced 17 Academic All-CCIW athletes, including ten repeat honorees.

There were 13 women’s basketball players named to the list, including five repeat honorees.

Sophomore Julie Albright and senior Melanie Mara made the list for the women’s swim and dive team, both of whom have earned the honors in the past, while women’s track and field produced 14 Academic All-CCIW selections with nine repeat honorees.

Of the 50 athletes, six have received the honor all four years of competition. Along with women’s basketball players Maryssa Cladis, and Bobbi Johns, Mara, Mahler and women’s track and field athletes Elizabeth Composto and Brittny Olson are four-time Academic All-CCIW honorees.

In addition to being named to the Academic-All Conference list, Mahler and senior women’s basketball player Tess Godhardt earned the Jack Swartz Academic All-Conference selection.

In order to receive the award, student-athletes must maintain a 3.50 or higher grade-point average during the term while remaining NCAA eligible. One male and female athlete is chosen from each CCIW school each season.

Mahler is an entrepreneurship major from Marquette, Mich., finishing his senior season with a record of 34-8 at the 285-pound weight class. He placed first at the CCIW Championships, going on to the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional Championships where he finished fifth.

He also led the team in pins for the second season in a row and leaves his mark on the program with 95 career wins and two National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Scholar All-American awards.

Godhardt, a political science major from Hinkley, Ill., was an impact player for the Cardinals this season. One of her most memorable games was against Millsaps College on Nov. 22, 2014 when she set a new single-game record with 40 points. She was the team leader in points per game, total points scored, and steals.

And her honors don’t stop there: she was also named to the First Team All-CCIW and Second Team All-Central Region, as well as being an Academic All-District honoree.
