When rockers collide: HAIM and Stevie Nicks jam with Foo Fighters

On Monday night, the Foo Fighters performed at Inglewood, Calif.’s the Forum alongside two very special guests: the legendary Stevie Nicks and her fellow “sisters of the moon” Haim.

The super-group kicked off the surprise set with a cover of “Stop Draggin’ my Heart Around,” which Nicks originally sang on her Bella Donna album duet with Tom Petty back in 1981. Nicks sang lead while former Nirvana drummer and current Foo Fighter front man Dave Grohl sang Petty’s part as the Haim sisters provided background vocals during the chorus.

According to fuse.tv, Nicks was situated to the right of the stage, the Haim sisters on the left, while Grohl, sat atop his giant rock throne due to his broken leg, straddled the center.”Ladies and gentlemen, I don’t want to leave until we at least do this,” Grohl told the Forum crowd as the band mounted a wall of feedback that morphed into a feverish rendition of Rumours’ “Gold Dust Woman,” NME reports.

According to Rolling Stone, this specific performance marks the second foundation of a “superdupergroup” for the Foo Fighters. They recently welcomed Led Zeppelin’s bassist John Paul Jones and Queen’s drummer Roger Taylor onstage during a U.K. show for a rendition of Queen and David Bowie’s “Under Pressure.”

This is not the first time that Nicks and the Fleetwood Mac-influenced Haim sisters have performed together. According to pitchfork.com, Haim met Nicks for the first time on September 2014 at Nick’s Los Angeles home where they participated in a joint interview for The New York Times’ T Magazine.

While there, the ladies teamed up to perform what Rolling Stone describes, an “impromptu sparse rendition of the Fleetwood Mac classic “Rhiannon,” with Nicks singing and playing the piano while the Haim girls harmonized along with her.” The performance was intimate and Nicks then gave the Haim ladies matching gold moon necklaces, dubbing them honoree “sisters of the moon.” When the ladies reunited Monday at the Forum, Nicks gifted the sisters their own “magical” scarves.

Nicks has also had a longstanding friendship with Grohl and even dedicated Fleetwood Mac’s hit ballad “Landslide” to him back in June after he fractured his leg.
“Nicks and Grohl have worked together for years, and recently she performed with his side project, The Sound City Players, on The Late Show With David Letterman. They’ve even played “Landslide” together before, including at 2013’s SXSW festival. Nicks also credits Grohl for helping her finish the 2013 documentary In Your Dreams,” reports ew.com. For those who love rock n’ roll, this was a night to certainly remember.
