The North Central College Cardinals traveled up to Kenosha, Wisc. last weekend to play a night game against the Carthage College Redmen.
Cardinal sophomore running back Austin Breunig (’18) had another dynamite day with 3 touchdown runs, all of 20 yards or more, racking up a total of 185 yards and leading the charge for the Cardinals to beat the Redmen 41-17.
The first quarter went scoreless with both teams missing a field goal attempt, until Breunig (‘18) opened up the second quarter with a 50 yard run on the first play of the quarter. After Breunig’s second and third touchdowns, junior quarterback Dylan Warden (’17) took over the scoring from there, throwing 3 touchdowns to targets, Nolan Brannick (’18), Cory Hartema (’18), and Alex Ulmer (’17).
Carthage had no room to breathe offensively as North Central’s defense held them to only two touchdowns and a field goal that was set up by a North Central fumble on their own 8 yard line.
The Cardinal’s defense was powered heavily by sophomore linebacker Tom Sora (’18) with 10 tackles, and senior defensive back Richard Zirngibl (’16) who had a 43 yard interception return including 5 additional tackles.
