It’s true. We love coffee and that’s the sanity which gets us going in the morning. When people take a trip into the city, it’s no surprise to see three Starbucks stores on one block. But let’s face it: the pounding migraines from the caffeine can only be tolerated for so long. So, rather than go out and drink more coffee that will lead to another migraine, get rid of it. Tea is making an extensive comeback for the following reasons of why it’s so addicting:
- It has the right amount of caffeine
Coffee and tea both have caffeine, no matter what types they are. However, tea contains caffeine that both give you energy as well as calming effects to keep your body relaxed. According to an article from Elite Daily, tea contains theophylline to relax muscles, theobromine to keep the blood flowing and L-Theanine to reduce stress. Tea is also smoother in releasing its caffeine, as it performs in a gentle slope. Coffee does the same process, but then suddenly drops when the caffeine reaches its peak, causing the familiar crash that people feel at 2 p.m.
- It’s an elixir for your health
Time magazine issued a long list of the many health benefits of tea. It reduces your risk of heart attack as well as other cardiovascular diseases. It shields against different types of cancers such as colon, lung, breast, skin and stomach cancers. Tea hydrates the body and is a better sugar processor to those with Type 2 diabetes. Tea also helps strengthen your teeth and can even serve as a backup for sunscreen against ultraviolet rays. More benefits can be found on the Time magazine website.
- It’s easier than making coffee
All you need to make tea is boiling water and the tea of your choice. While instant coffee greatly consumes our lifestyle, gourmet styles are still options that unfortunately take longer. It’s easier to add the teabag and instantly have a drink rather than waiting for the espresso beans to grind into powder. To make it even easier, electric kettles boil water in under a minute.
- It has a larger variety of natural flavors
Rather than spending extra money coffee creamers that are thick in calories, tea comes in all different flavors such as fruit, mint, citrus, floral, chocolate, vanilla and organic (no taste). Whether it’s a black or green tea, there are thousands of varieties that can satisfy your taste buds. Even to satisfy your sweet tooth, there are many dessert teas that have similar tastes to lemon meringue pie and red velvet cupcakes. Grocery brands like Lipton, Celestial Seasonings, Tazo and Bigelow are cheap and displayed with many flavors on the shelves for instant tea. Other companies like David’s Tea, Teavana, Adagio Tea and The Republic of Tea are pricier, but have even more varieties that contain a richer taste.
- It reduces stress
Let’s face it: stress is not an emotion. It’s a lifestyle that slowly consumes students until finals are over. But tea has proven to lessen the amount of stress that we have on a daily basis. Medical News Today has linked tea with good moods throughout the day because of its elements to keep the brain more alert and nurture muscles. Drinking at least three cups of tea a day can calm you down while retaining focus to finish weekend homework.
- It’s cheaper
Unlike coffee, tea comes in individual, separate boxes that cost less than five dollars. There are not a lot of variety or jumbo-sized packs that coffee offers, which can cost more than fifteen dollars. With tea, it’s easy to replace boxes without damaging your wallet. Also, a study broadcasted on ABC showed that the average American spends more than $1,000 a year on coffee products. The industry is marked at more than $20 billion while tea is half of that.
