Winter is officially here. Now that the warmer weather of November and December has ended, it’s time to bundle up for the frigid temperatures and snowfall that has arrived. We all know how hard it is to get up and dress up when the temperatures are below freezing. Sweats always seem like a great option, but these students are prime examples of how to stay warm and fashionable for that brutal walk to class.
Adam Spaccapaniccia, a senior exercise science major, knows the value in layering. “My favorite sweaters are Polo Ralph Lauren. They come in a lot of different styles and colors, but this tan quarter-zip is my favorite,” said Spaccapaniccia. He paired his Polo sweater with a gray quilted vest from H&M, a basic pair of jeans in a classic wash and Aldo Astrian boots.
Spaccapaniccia says that he gained his sense of style as he got older. “I learned what looks good and what doesn’t just from watching and learning from people around me,” he said. His favorite items to wear in the winter are boots and sweaters, which seems to be a common trend around campus.
Allison Hartman (’18) echoed the sentiments of Spaccapaniccia, saying that boots were her favorite winter wear along with hats like the white Buckle beanie she’s wearing. “My Timberland boots are my favorite pair of shoes to wear because they’re super warm and made for the snow,” said Hartman.
With small dorm closets, it can be very difficult to fit a lot of thick sweaters or puffy vests. Hartman said it’s hard to pick out outfits for class every day, especially with the extra challenge of not having a lot of warm clothing.
She also has difficulty finding style inspiration since her celebrity style crush, Vanessa Hudgens, has a bohemian style. “I really like the boho style, but it’s hard to do in the winter,” Hartman said. However, she still achieved that boho style by layering her thrifted olive green vest over her cream Forever 21 cardigan and blush Gap blouse.
Both of these students show that layering is key to warmth and that boots are the best choice of footwear for this snowy and cold weather. It’s hard to stay fashionable and warm at the same time, but just a little bit of layering and some cute winter accessories and you won’t have to say “I’m sorry for what I wore when I was cold,” come spring. Stay fashionable, NCC.
