Converse recently released its new Converse All Star “Chuck II” line ups in March 2016. One of the first variant patterns for it is a contradiction: Reflective Camo.
This design is apparently for those who can’t decide whether they want to be hidden or be found. Other designs include the “Chuck II Neon Pack” which features three different neon-colored sneakers. It seems that the trend favors those who like their sneakers to be seen.
A black shoe with a white base is covered with a gray and tan reflective pattern. The gray and tan camo works to blend in the otherwise black cloth. What subtracts from it is its reflective nature.
Converse might as well replace that white base with L.E.D. lights that flash every time you take a step. The white in this case also counters the idea of the camouflage-patterned shoe. Although they have gone with a white base on other camo patterns in the past, in this case it only adds to the hypocrisy of a “Reflective Camo.”
The shoe retails at $80 online. Converse does have camouflage options that make sense, such as a shoe with a dark rubber base sporting dark green, tan and other traditional camouflage colors.
To promote this new shoe they had people climbing a tower as part of the “II Tests.” Part of the promotion makes sense; the whole idea behind the new line of Converse is that they are supposed to be more comfortable and provide more support with added gel padding. The urban climbing has nothing to do with the design.
In another video lights flash around the reflective-camouflage shoe, making the pattern more similar to a luminescent cow than anything else.
If you’re looking to get a pair of these shoes, online is currently your best bet. According to a Converse employee at Chicago Premium Outlets, the “Chuck II” line of shoes are so popular that they quickly sell out online, which denies outlets the opportunity to stock the line.
