Accessories are the icing on top of an outfit cake. With just the buckling of a sandal or a clasping of a statement necklace, an outfit can go from basic to badass in seconds.
This year shoes took the spotlight in the Vogue spring accessory report, but handbags and jewelry were just as prominent on the spring ready-to-wear runways.
Chunky sandals complete with plenty of straps and chains are the edgiest trend for spring. Everyone from Alexander Wang and Louis Vuitton, who both designed chain versions, to Chanel with their grown-up take on the light-up shoe had this style.
On a more light-hearted note, glittering shoes were another popular design. Whether it be stones or sequins, a shoe that shines will be the perfect pair with an elegant outfit for a special event. Look to classics like Gucci and Oscar de la Renta for inspiration to find the shoes of your sparkling dreams.
Other styles, such as lace-ups ranging anywhere from stilettos at Fendi to flats at Prada are still trending this season. A new player in the game is the square toe, the pointy toes’ hip sister. Pick a style like Céline’s to test drive or combine a few for a personal take on this season’s shoe trends.
White handbags are the cleanest accessory for spring. This neutral color in a classic shape will take you through several seasons, but will make a statement. If you’re daring, give a slouchy hobo bag like Louis Vuitton or some fringe detailing à la Balenciaga a try.
If you’re especially daring, say hello to graphic prints that are taking over the handbag arena. Bold stripes and bright colors ruled several runways such as Dolce & Gabbana and Marc Jacobs. The key to keeping this style chic is sticking with a classic structured shape as opposed to the more relaxed ones that work with the white handbag style.
In terms of jewelry this season, choker necklaces are still on the rise at fashion houses like Louis Vuitton and Versace as the 90s revival remains strong. Try a choker necklace out in spring’s trendy chain hardware style to add a small dose of edge to any outfit.
Shoulder-dusting earrings are the perfect balance to springs off-the-shoulder tops. Prada oversized floral spheres may not be wearable for class, but Alexander McQueen’s dangling version can be found everywhere from Forever 21 to Charming Charlie. Also give clear accessories a go by switching out your backpack for a sleek clear tote or finding an adult version of the jelly sandals like Simone Rocha’s acrylic pair.
And for those of you who want to feel like a queen, tiaras graced the runway of Saint Laurent and showed their influence elsewhere. Miu Miu accessorized with a headband with shine and Dolce & Gabbana displayed their take on the “Lemonade” phenomenon early with a lemon tiara.
Give one or more of these accessories a go this season to add some interest to any outfit. Also be sure to check out NCCLinked.com for more fashion tips and tricks.
