5 ways to nail that interview

Not everyone gets the opportunity to be interviewed for their ideal job or internship.  Matter of fact, if you are given the chance to be interviewed, your interviewing skills might be outdated, which is perfectly normal because we aren’t being interviewed every day. However, if you are applying for that job or internship you think you’d love, it’s always best to give yourself time to prepare; once you hit the submit button for your application, interviews can come your way any minute.

Going through an interview can be nerve-wracking – but it can also be the best feeling you will ever experience after it’s done. Regardless of what you decide to apply for, here are five ways to nail your interview.

  1. Learn more about the job/internship you are applying for

It is always best to make sure you know a few things about your internship; when, where, who, and how they started, the strengths and weaknesses they have within the company, and who the current employees are. The more you know about the company, the better. Your interviewer will likely give you a call back because you took time to learn more about their job, which shows how much you want to be part of the team.

  1. Really read the job description

Reading the job description thoroughly will help you understand what you are really applying for. Reading the job description will also give you an in-depth understanding of what your responsibilities are. During interviews, your interviewer will sometimes bring up the job description of the position you are applying for, which means it is always best to read the description ahead of time so that if they ask you a question, you will know what to say.

  1. Research interview questions and practice

You won’t really know what your interviewer is going to ask you, which is why it is always best to do some research and practice, practice, PRACTICE! Questions like, “Why do you want this job? Or “Tell me more about yourself,” or “Why should we pick you?” are good questions to practice. However, don’t make it seem like you had to memorize your answer. Be natural. Be confident.

  1. Always bring an extra copy of your resume

Not all interviewers will have a copy of your resume, which means it is always best to bring an extra copy. Bringing an extra copy of your resume also shows that you are thinking ahead of the game and most companies like that.

  1. Send a follow-up email after the interview

This is the most important thing to do after an interview. Sending a follow-up email to your interviewer shows that you care about the position you are applying for. It also shows how much you want the job. Always remember that you are not the only one applying for the position; you have to stand out and showing the interviewers that you really want this job is a plus.

Now that you know how to nail an internship or job interview, smile and be confident. Wear something comfortable but also stylish. Most importantly, be yourself. Good luck.
