Indie rock band, The Unlikely Candidates, released its new EP titled “Bed of Liars” on Feb.17, after releasing a series of EPs and singles. Being compared to both Kings of Leon and Mumford & Sons, the Unlikely Candidates are the band alternative fans have likely never heard of but should definitely listen to.
The album kicks off with “Best Things in Life Are Free” which from the very beginning has a danceable groove. Incorporating both alternative and some electronic sounds, this song is sure to be a hit at both parties or on a road trip with some close friends.
“Ringer” is the lead single and is currently in the top 35 at Alternative Radio and are climbing rapidly and can be heard in-stores at both Whole Foods and Guess Jeans. Lead vocalist Kyle Morris sings about a love interest who he wants to “put a ring around her finger.” The catchy chorus is sure to be stuck in your head with this fun hit.
From the very beginning, “Your Love Could Start a War” brings up the energy and builds all the way up to the chorus. After 2 million plays on Spotify, this song can definitely be considered a hit. This song in particular sounds as if Brendon Urie from Panic! At the Disco sang with more of a country vibe, which is once again sure to be a fun song to dance to.
The second half of the album features “Violence” which has a much different vibe than the songs that came before. A police siren leads to the sounds of synthesizers as Morris sings “Maybe I should leave her…maybe I don’t need her…maybe I was wrong…maybe she was right.” This song can be considered a chance to catch your breath, but definitely keeps the intensity up.
The energy is brought back with the song, “Call My Name,” with a danceable beat accompanied with cool synthesizers and vocals. Following “Violence,” this song continues the theme of heartbreak as can be heard in the lyrics, definitely not a song to be skipped.
“Reaction” finishes the album out strong. Fans of Imagine Dragons can appreciate this combination of indie rock and electronic. This song will definitely be a fun one to sing along to if you are lucky enough to see them on tour.
Although “Bed of Liars” is a short album to listen, it is definitely one that is a fun one to listen to again and again with something for everyone. If you’re a fan of alternative music, The Unlikely Candidates are a great up-and-coming band to check out!
