MUNA: American girl pop band, MUNA, recently released their debut album in early February titled, “About U.” Members Katie Gavin, Naomi McPherson and Josette Maskin are based in Los Angeles where the trio writes, records and self-produces all of their releases. Their album showcases their sensual rhythms of pop rock and soothing lyrics.
the xx: Album number three, “I See You,” was revealed from the xx four years after releasing their sophomore album, Coexist. Produced by Jamie xx and Rodaidh McDonald, the album contains 10 songs, including the hit single “On Hold.” The band announced a series of tour dates that kicked off in late January. With influences from Joy Division to The Kills, the album demonstrates an exceptional mix of indie electronic and rock.
Mother Mother: Mother Mother is Canadian indie rock band under Last Gang Records based in Vancouver, British Columbia. The band began in 2005 when vocalist Ryan Guldemond recruited his sister Molly and a friend from college to start writing vocal-driven pop songs. The group played solely acoustic until drummer Kenton Loewen and bassist Jeremy Page joined. They are back now with their sixth album, “No Culture,” that features the catchy lead single from the album, “The Drugs.”
Cruel Youth: Natalia Kills makes a comeback into the music industry as Teddy Sinclair, the lead in the three-piece girl band Cruel Youth. Their first EP, “+30mg,” was released in September 2016. Alongside her husband, Willy Moon, Sinclair makes a debut into the world of alt-rock and electro-pop with “+30mg,” an EP that consists of candid lyrics and fresh, up-tempo beats that pair nicely with Sinclair’s multi-faceted artist image.
