From a project that started in class, to taking the stage at the Social Innovation Challenge, Meagan Kellermann has turned her ideas into reality. With one goal in mind, she is challenging NCC to support students and faculty by adding childcare to NCC’s resume.
“This idea started off small; I originally was going to propose a grant for just one student… but after talking to a few professors, they gave me the support to make this as big as I wanted it to be,” said Kellermann. Now, she is proposing that NCC takes action and adds an early childhood center on campus.
While this project is still in its first stages, professors and students are getting on board with the idea. Kellermann’s grant writing professor, Richard Guzman, is impressed with her drive to make this happen. “The neat thing about Meagan and this project is that she really followed through with it,” said Guzman.
Guzman talks about how in the past, he has had students who have done similar projects for his classes. In Kellermann’s case, she decided to take her project out of the classroom.
After being one of the winners of the Social Innovation Challenge in the fall, Kellermann is getting some guidance from NCC. She is now doing the research needed to make this program come to life.
