No class. No meetings. No stress. What is a person to do on the weekends? Binge watch as many shows on Netflix as possible within the course of two days.
During the week, there is not much time to watch shows. Personally, I barely turn on the TV during the week unless I need to check the weather report. However, with minimal responsibilities during the weekend, it gives students time to binge watch to their heart’s content. Here are my top five shows I recommend students to binge watch this weekend:
‘Bates Motel’
This show is not for the faint of heart, so be warned. It’s a psychological thriller based off the movie “Psycho” where nobody is safe. This show is great to binge watch because it has very short seasons, so it is not too time consuming. Anybody interested in horror or psychological thrillers shows would be drawn to this show. It has a fantastic ensemble cast, an intriguing, albeit horrifying, storyline and complex characters. For all of you psychology majors on campus, Norman Bates is the perfect character to try to figure out. All four seasons are on Netflix and the fifth and final season airs Monday nights on A & E.
‘iZombie’
I did not think I would enjoy this show because blood and zombies gross me out, but this show is an exception. Since this show is based off a comic series, comic fans would greatly enjoy it. However, if you are like me and have never touched a comic, it is still a fun, unique show. Dashed with comedy and murder, the storyline is interesting enough to keep you intrigued and also give you a good laugh. Rose McIver shines as Liv Moore, the newly turned zombie. The first two seasons are available on Netflix with season three slated to premiere April 4 on The CW.
‘The Office’
I would be very shocked to hear that someone has yet to watch this show. Honestly, I watched it for the first time last spring. This is hands down the funniest show I have ever watched. The characters are all weird in their own way, which makes it entertaining. The humor is crude, but you can’t help but laugh. It’s one of those feel-good shows that will brighten your day after a week of stress. Plus, the characters are all wonderfully cast. All nine seasons are available to watch on Netflix.
‘Once Upon a Time’
One day I will get someone to watch this show. It is a retelling of all our favorite fairytales from our childhood. However, there are dark themes within the show. Each character has a story which makes you feel more sympathetic toward him or her. One of the reasons I love this show is the portrayal of women as strong and independent. It’s refreshing to see women who save the men. If you can get past the low budget special effects, it is a fun show to watch. The sixth season is still airing Sunday nights on ABC, and the previous five seasons are on Netflix.
‘Parks and Recreation’
Although this show centers around the lives of government workers, it is anything but dull. All of the characters are relatable and it’s a show that will make you laugh out loud. This is another show that will help take your mind off the stress of the term. The dialogue is also written very well which can be hard to find in comedy shows. “Parks and Recreation” is a rare gem in the comedy world. All seven seasons are on Netflix for your viewing pleasure. You will get addicted.
If friends are being flaky on weekend plans, don’t despair, there are tons of shows to binge watch. You all deserve to lie on the couch and not think about school during the weekend. Also, trust me when I say the five shows listed above are the greatest shows to ever be created. Honorable mention to “Friends” as well which has 10 seasons on Netflix.
