Tonight on Mic Drop we feature senior Ryan Kelsey. You might have seen him on last week’s episode with signed country singer Alex Smith, but this week, we feature Kelsey’s guitar skills and voice. Kelsey studies political science and history. On top of that, he is also a cadet at U.S. Army Cadet Command. In his free time, Kelsey enjoys playing guitar and singing with his friends.
Before you tune in tonight at 8, here is a quick interview with Kelsey.
Stella Fanega: When did you start playing the guitar/singing?
Ryan Kelsey: I started playing when I was 10 years old.
SF: If you can remember, what was the first song you learned how to play?
RK: The first song I learned to play was “Wake Me Up When September Ends” by Green Day.
SF: What does music do to you?
RK: Good question. To me, music can shape, change or amplify whatever sort of emotions that you feel.
SF: Who inspires you to play guitar/sing?
RK: My earliest inspiration for music was Stevie Ray Vaughan.
SF: If you had the opportunity to meet your favorite artist, who would it be and why?
RK: I’d love to meet John Mayer because he’s a lyrical and musical genius, and I’d love to learn from him.
Catch Kelsey tonight at 8 on the Chronicle/NCCLinked Facebook Live feed.
