The Killers just released their fifth album, “Wonderful Wonderful.” Fans fondly recall hits from the 2004 debut album, “Hot Fuss,” that everyone can sing along to, like “Mr. Brightside” or “Somebody Told Me,” but fans are just as excited for their newest record.
From the first track, The Killers maintain the unique sound that they are known for. The album kicks off with the title track which is best described as overtly dark and dramatic as the heavy hits of the drums are heard with the bass throughout the track.
With a slow start comes the track “The Man,” which provides a funky ‘80s-style synth combined with an electrifying bass. If you listen closely, you can hear the Daft Punk-like electronic influence on this track.
On the track “Run for Cover” as well as on the rest of the album, you can hear the sound the band was going for. They attempt to capitalize on the nostalgia trend, but it’s questionable whether or not they really succeed. The ballad “Some Kind of Love,” for example, sounds like it could be played at a high school dance in an ‘80s movie.
All in all, if you have been loyal to The Killers for the past 13 years, you’ll want to give this album a listen or at least appreciate their effort to remain relevant in 2017.
CONCERT NOTE: The Killers will play the United Center in Chicago on Jan. 16, 2018.
