NCC alum and founder of Chicago Buzz Marketing, Anne Marie Imbordino returned to visit and speak with students on the impact of technology on public relations. Her main goals are to help people get their message out and to ensure her clients have a positive experience with her company.
Imbordino built the company up in just two years, largely with the power of networking. She stressed to the students the importance of constantly building relationships. A technique she employs in networking is to first establish a personal relationship with someone and then slowly work up to discussing business. This way, the person you are speaking with feels as though they have made a friend they can trust.
Imbordino also spoke on communication skills and how technology could be potentially damaging to it. She stressed again the importance of face-to-face interactions because it establishes a better relationship rather than just communicating through a device.
“You will need to be interactive with people until the end of time,” she said.
Chicago Buzz Marketing was not easy to develop; it took hard work. While at NCC, Imbordino created her own degree in PR and Marketing. She quickly discovered that working hands-on was the best way to learn more about her craft. When she could not find an opportunity, she created it. Along with her double major, she was married, had a full-time job and several internships throughout her college years. If she was able to juggle all this, anyone can. As Imbordino said, “you have no excuse.”
