Our artist of the week is Kira Savegnago, ’20. She is double majoring in musical theatre and anthropology.
Madeleine O’Connell: What do you plan to do with your majors after North Central?
Kira Savegnago: I’d love to perform on Broadway one day. That’s always been a dream of mine! It was just recently that I discovered my love for anthropology, so with that, I would like to work in a museum or work in archaeology.
MO: How long have you been involved in theater, and what was your favorite musical/play to perform in?
KS: I have been involved in theatre and music for about eight years. I have two favorite musicals that I’ve performed in. I played Kate in “Kiss Me Kate” and was a soloist in “Godspell.”
MO: Do you play any instruments, or are there any that you would like to learn how to play?
KS: I actually don’t play any instruments currently. I’d love to learn some piano because I feel like it would really help me in my career path, and I have to take three terms of piano lessons for my major anyway!
MO: What is one piece of advice you would give future North Central College students who wish to get involved in the theater program?
KS: Obviously, theatre is a very competitive field to go into. It is important to be confident, have stamina and have a thick skin. It is also important to not get discouraged because every part in a show is vital to the show’s success.
