The North Central College theatre department will bring to life the ancient tale of “Iphigeneia,” daughter of Agamemnon. Nearly sacrificed by her own father, the young princess is saved by the goddess Artemis, and in a wicked twist of fate, is commanded to ritually sacrifice foreigners as a temple priestess. When strange and dark dreams plague her and even stranger visitors arrive, she must take her chance to escape.
Tyler Meyer, who will play Pylades, says “the story is an adventure at its core and despite being an Ancient Greek text, the audience will really be able to get that sense of excitement and adventure.”
Dylan Obrochta, who will play Orestes, says that he has loved every moment of working on the show. “Everyone put forth their best effort for the show to be amazing,” he remarks. “The older, more formal dialogue used in the show has been really fun to play with.”
“All the characters face issues of class, power and finding where they belong in this world of blood and death and despair,” says Norah Flaherty who plays Taurian Herdsman.
The performance, directed by Laura Lodewyck, will take place in the Madden Theatre in the lower level of Wentz Concert Hall.
Shows are Feb. 1, 2 and 3 at 7:30 p.m. (doors open at 6:30), matinees Feb. 3 and 4 at 2:00 p.m. (doors open at noon). Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students and seniors.
