Brad Stirtz, celebrated mallet percussionist and composer, will treat an audience at North Central’s Madden Theatre to an evening of vibraphonic jazz music on Feb. 9. The Nebraska native has held concerts internationally and worked with accomplished musicians like Ed Thigpen, Patricia Barber and Don McLean.
Stirtz earned a master’s of music in percussion performance at the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago, and later a theology degree from Concordia University Chicago. Stirtz has held positions on the faculties of the American Conservatory, Roosevelt University, Benedictine University and Northern Illinois University. Presently, Stirtz is the director of music and worship at Peace Lutheran Church in Lombard, Ill., and a jazz educator at NCC.
His holiday albums, “Caribbean Christmas” and “Christmas Vibes,” are available on Youtube, as is a performance of his composition “Canis Major” from Naperville Central High School’s 2015 Drumshow and his “Sonatina for Vibraharp.”
Doors for the Feb. 9 performance in Madden Theatre will open at 7 p.m. The performance will begin at 8 p.m. and last until 9:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online or at the box office.
