Men’s track and field did more than just win another conference title this year — they also excelled in the classroom. Dhruvil Patel, ’19, was selected by the College to receive the Jack Swartz Academic All-Conference award — named after former CCIW commissioner and Wheaton College coach and administrator Jack Swartz —following his win in the 5,000-meter run at Division III National Championships in March.
On the women’s side, track and field produced another selection through Madelyn Scopp, ’20, who placed second in both the mile and 3,000-meter run at the CCIW meet in February along with a third-place finish in the 5,000-meter run. She was also the fastest North Central runner in each of those events during the 2017-18 indoor season.
Student-athletes must have maintained a GPA of at least 3.30 and earned a varsity letter in their sport to be considered for the larger Academic All-CCIW honors list.
Five athletes from the men’s track and field team were on the list for winter sports along with three women’s track and field members, two women’s basketball players, one men’s swimming team member and one wrestler. The College then selected from these eligible members for the Jack Swartz award, an award given to one male and one female athlete from each CCIW school.
