The Student Governing Association has had their first open meeting of the year. Chartwells, Green Scene and Cardinal Red Bikes were some of the topics discussed at the Week 3 meeting. The full meeting is outlined below:

  • Ivan Bohorquez is the new president of SGA, with Dean of Students Kevin McCarthy as the new advisor.
  • Recap from changes made last year: new patio outside New Hall, better on-campus food options and making the campus smoke-free.
  • Volunteers needed for the Student Life Fair on Monday, Oct. 8 from 9:15-10 a.m. Volunteers will talk to prospective students about NCC and SGA.
  • Jordan Newcomer of Campus Safety is looking for students to be a part of the Parking Appeals Board, a committee that grants or denies tickets handed out on campus that have been submitted as unjustified.
  • SGA is looking for students to join the cultural events committee. More information will be available at the next meeting.
  • Green Scene is working on a new school policy to prohibit people from idling their cars on campus. More details on the project will be coming soon.
  • New food options at Kaufman have included fresh fruit, a deli bar and breakfast sandwiches on-the-go.
  • SGA is looking to work with downtown dining options to give NCC students discounts if they present their ID. Some places already offer discounts, such as Frost Gelato.
  • Dining services are looking for student ambassadors to be a part of the Cardinal Food Group, designed for student representatives to give feedback about on-campus dining options.
  • Green Scene will be having a litter clean-up event on Sunday, Oct. 7.
  • There was discussion of buying more Cardinal Red Bikes to make them more available to students who are currently on the waitlist for one, and whether NCC should implement Lime Scooters in place of or along with Red Bikes.
  • Shimer is currently hosting Frankenstein-related events to celebrate the 200-year anniversary of Mary Shelley’s monster novel.
  • More discussion arose about the convenience of putting a bank machine on campus for students to use versus going to a bank downtown.

All students are encouraged to attend SGA meetings to bring new ideas on how to make the campus a better place for everyone. Meetings are held every Thursday at 12 p.m. in room 210 in the School of Business and Entrepreneurship.
