Anke Richert-Korioth, a painter from Germany now based in the U.S., explores her European roots through her artwork. She is known for landscape pieces, titled “Creative Expressions.” They are open for viewing in the Schoenherr Gallery of Wentz Concert Hall.
Korioth is influenced by her life experiences and world travels. “(My artwork) mostly portrays landscapes in an impressionistic and abstract manner.” She explained when, “first captured in a photograph, that image will find it’s way onto the canvas and will become the vantage point for the painting.”
“My favorite is the painting on the back wall (“Midwest Harvest”),” said Vicky Zuchara, ’21. “I like the scale, so before we knew it was about nature we just thought it was different abstractions [of the]landscapes.”
“I didn’t know it was a landscape until I stared at it for three weeks and then I said, ‘Oh my gosh I see it!’” Once you know what it’s about, it just makes you think a little bit,” said Rachel Allison, ’20.
The exhibit will be in Schoenherr Gallery from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Mondays and Saturdays and from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. Her work is also on display at the Waterstreet Studios building in Batavia in the Ross Contemporary Gallery.
Richert-Korioth hopes aspiring artists keep working toward their goals. “Never give up pursuing what you love,” she said. “If life gets in the way, don’t give up.”
