The Tony-Award winning play “Peter and the Starcatcher” has made its way to the North Central College campus as the first musical of the school year. The show is full of big numbers, big moves and a big cast. The production is made up of two acts and has a PG rating.

This musical is a prequel to the story of Peter Pan. Featuring 12 actors portraying over 100 characters, the play uses stagecraft and imagination to bring the story to life. From fighting pirates and jungle tyrants to unwilling comrades and unusual heroes, this musical explores the issues of greed, despair, the bonds of friendship, duty and love.

“The music in ‘Peter and the Starcatcher’ adds a level of comedy to the show with unexpected sound effects and the little interludes,” said Katie Rose Ford, ‘21, assistant music director. “The two big musical numbers in the show are nostalgic of big Broadway numbers and move the plot forward through pivotal moments in the play.”

LiSean McElrath, ‘21, who is playing Hawking Clam, said that the show highlights the joys of a youthful imagination while also demonstrating the absurdity of adult life. “Sometimes we take life too seriously, but ‘Peter and the Starcatcher’ exhibits the benefits of letting our inner child free,” he said.

The production shows on Nov. 8 to 9 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 10 to 11 at 2 p.m. in Meiley-Swallow Hall.
