Say goodbye to CardinalNet and hello to The Hub, the upcoming tech platform that will be the go-to site for all of the means of communication at North Central.
With CardinalNet being the College’s current go-to platform for access to all the necessary resources across campus, The Hub may just be building upon on how convenient CardinalNet has been for several years.
“CardinalNet has served us well for the better part of 10 years, but we were looking to find a solution that would support our students, faculty and staff in new ways,” said Jennifer Dust, senior web application programmer. “Finally seeing it come to fruition has been an exciting step towards our new intranet.”
The initiative for an all-in-one college intranet package is what got the idea of The Hub going.
“Our strategic planning process identified a need for a more effective communication and collaboration tool for the entire campus,” said Matthew Burden, vice president for information and technology services.
The Hub will be replacing CardinalNet by fall 2020 for students. It has already made its way into faculty and staff systems as of Monday, Jan. 27. However, ITS wants the College to know that CardinalNet won’t be leaving just yet.
“We plan to keep it available for about one year as we transition everyone to The Hub,” said Burden.
The Hub Features
The process of carrying over all necessary applications, features and additions is still taking some time for ITS.
“We are still working on migrating content from CardinalNet to The Hub and that’s a big task. The launch we just had was one piece of that,” said Dust. “In the coming months, you can look forward to more content becoming available as we continue the content migration.”
For students that are returning for the fall 2020 academic semester, who have also utilized CardinalNet for the last three years, there may be plenty of feedback that is to come once it is fully available.
“The Hub will be an adjustment at first. I use CardinalNet every once in a while and everything seems to be streamlined with it,” said Lucas Pindak, ’21.
As of now, CardinalNet is essentially NCC’s “hub” for email access, campus department contact information, Merlin, billing statements, program evaluations, Blackboard and more.
With some people relying on CardinalNet to navigate resources, this change may gradually impact how students use technology to communicate.
New additions The Hub will feature include a user-friendly interface, streamlined uploading process and a customizable dashboard. You can tailor your experience to fit your needs and interests, with notifications to keep you updated.
Unlike CardinalNet, The Hub is designed to be mobile-friendly, so it can be used anywhere. Users also have various social features like chats, comments and blogs at their fingertips.
