Men’s basketball scores round two victory in NCAA tournament

Gregory Arena was packed with excited fans from both teams as they fought hard to bring home a round two victory in the NCAA Division III tournament.

The Cardinals hosted rounds one and two for the second year in a row. With the home-court advantage, the team was able to pull off a victory in overtime with a score of 84-82 against University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

Having previously faced the Titans and losing in the opening game of the season, the Cardinals were looking to redeem themselves.

The game started off a little rough for the Cardinals as they trailed behind the Titans for most of the game. At the end of the first half, the team found themselves down by 11 points.

The Cardinals were able to gain momentum in the second half. The team was able to close the wide gap and bring the score to 57-60 with seven minutes and 18 seconds left in the half.

The team then proceeded to tie up the score 67-67. The Cardinals were able to pull ahead after Blaise Meredith, ’21, hit a three-pointer with one minute and 53 seconds left bringing the score to 70-67.

With both teams bringing their A-game in the last few seconds, the second half ended in a tie with a score of 73-73, forcing the game into overtime.

Michael Pollack, ’21, scored the game-winning basket with four seconds left bringing the final score to 84-82.

Looking to continue their road to victory, the team faces Washington University in the next round. The time and date will be announced at a later date.
