NCC has already taken several steps to try and slow to spread of the coronavirus to those on campus, including a campus-wide closure. Although these measures, as well as others, have been taken seriously, it is still possible to contract the virus.
This evening the North Central community was informed that a member of the NCC administrative staff has tested positive for the coronavirus.
“The employee was notified of the test results today and shared the information with us,” said President Troy Hammond.
This staff member last came into work on campus on March 10, according to Dr. Hammond in an email to the campus community. Later that day, they returned home after feeling ill. They then began a 14-day quarantine after speaking with their local healthcare provider and the local health department, the email said.
Those who came in close contact with this individual that day have been contacted. The college will continue to monitor the situation and stay in touch with the staff member and their family, Dr. Hammond said.
“We have been told by public health officials to expect additional cases in these days and weeks to come; that information doesn’t make today’s news any less upsetting,” Hammond said.
Updates regarding other possible COVID-19 cases and the most up-to-date information can be found on the College’s website.
