Fifteen positive COVID-19 test results were reported on NCC campus on Oct. 29. Of the 15, 12 are students — three of whom are isolating on campus — and three are staff members.
The College has consistently reported positive cases on campus every day for over a week now. The latest positivity rate is currently at 8.6% as of Oct. 24, according to NCC’s COVID-19 website.
Since the start of the official campus testing protocol on Aug. 6, NCC reported 82 total positive tests, the majority being students.
A recent email from the athletic department announced the suspension of team practices, activities and conditioning until next Friday, Nov. 6. The department will reassess the return of these sports events closer to next Friday.
NBC Chicago reported yesterday, Oct. 29, that Illinois had the highest number of daily COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic early this year. More specifically, the Illinois Department of Public Health reported 6,363 new cases in the state, including 56 additional deaths.
On a national level, the U.S. recorded the highest number of positive COVID-19 cases in one day since the pandemic began, marking more than 88,521 new cases on Thursday, according to Johns Hopkins University.
Kevin McCarthy, assistant vice president for Student Affairs and dean of students, sent out an email Friday to the campus community regarding health and safety during this Halloween weekend. McCarthy reminds students that “willfully endangering the campus community” by not following the COVID-19 guidelines may result in suspension or dismissal from the College.
