NCC’s art and design department is hosting an exhibition to showcase protest art created by current and former students. This past summer, students created and used this artwork to protest racial inequity nationwide.
Hale Ekinci, professor of art and design and one of the curators of the exhibition, said she hopes this exhibition can be used to start a conversation about the Black Lives Matter movement and lead to greater awareness.
Co-curator of the exhibition and assistant professor of art and design, David Cordero, felt this exhibition was an important part of showcasing NCC’s priorities as a whole. “The power of art is that it takes up space and has a presence. It’s inspiring to see students making work about important issues. An exhibit like this sends a signal to the community that there are people here who also care about racial justice,” said Cordero.
The protest art exhibition is open to limited in-person viewing in Wentz Fine Arts Center on Mondays from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Wednesdays from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
