NCC showcases ways to stay involved on campus

On Sept. 9, the Student Involvement Fair took place on Jefferson Lawn. Most student organizations had set up tables with posters and goodies to their liking and ability. Attendees moved between tables and signed up for more information in a variety of ways. However, most tables required scanning a QR code or signing up on a physical email list

Although many students were required to attend for CARD 101/102 credit, most students took advantage of this chance to get to know the clubs and organizations on campus. A variety of different members, depending on their schedules, ran each table. Most were very outgoing and excited to talk about the club they represented.

COVID-19 restrictions

Katherine McGraw, ’22, the American Marketing Association president for NCC, says that “it’s easier to get people involved.” However, NCC still expects clubs to follow a few rules regarding in-person gathering. The school requires participants at any event to wear masks indoors. This rule was established according to guidance from the CDC and requirements from Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker. McGraw mentioned that student leaders must be aware of these rules in order to keep everyone safe.

Weekend Programming Board president, Chloe Hart, ’22, provided updates on the club outlook for this year.

Last year we were heavily restricted on what kind of events we could host and how many people could come to our events, but this year (fingers crossed nothing happens) we have nothing standing in our way to bring some of the coolest, and best events we have ever thrown!,” said Hart.

Opportunities to stay involved

Staying involved is more important than ever this year, especially if students missed out in 2020.

“Being involved is one of the most important things a college student should do! Whether it’s joining/ creating a club or just coming to events for other orgs. It’s an important part of getting the full experience of college; meeting people and getting free stuff!,” said Hart.
