NCC’s Paraprofessional launch week

NCC’s Paraprofessional Launch Week began on Nov. 29 and concluded Dec. 3. It features a series of events to prepare students for paraprofessional positions on campus. Therefore, groups involved included the Office of Multicultural Affairs, Residence Life, Student Involvement and the Dyson Wellness Center

Events

Informational sessions are held on each position, so they’re available for students and the requirements associated with them. The positions include Resident Assistants, First Year mentors, Peer Health educators, Orientation staff and Premier team leaders.

Launch party

The Paraprofessional Launch Party happened on the first day of the week in Wentz Concert hall. Afterwards, the Paraprofessional Info Session and Student Panel occurred in Stevenson Hall on Dec. 1.

Application preparation

Likewise, the Prepping Like a (Para) Pro event on Dec. 2, help students with the application process. The presentation prepares students with practical skills. For example, the topics of building resumes and conducting interviews. Meanwhile, the organizers also assist students personally to improve their portfolio. Overall, the event was to prepare attendees for their future.

“Being a student leader, you gain valuable skills, like team work and communication, that stay with you for the rest of your life and that employers love to see,” said Rachel Pridgen, Director of Student Involvement and Transition Programs.

Applying

The applications are now open and will be available through Jan. 21, 2022. In addition, students interested can contact Pridgen or Samantha Godfrey, Health Education Coordinator and Campus Advocate, to answer any further questions.
