MolinaCares and Molina Healthcare of Illinois have selected students for their scholarships. The scholarship financially assists college students affected by the pandemic. NCC student Brandon Harmsen was among the winners. The MolinaCares COVID-19 Vaccine Scholarship Program gave ten students part of the total $100,000 available. MolinaCares named the finalists on Feb. 1 which included students from across Illinois.
“We hope these scholarships can be impactful and help students in need as they continue their academic careers. I am grateful to have read the applicants’ stories and to have worked with Molina on this important program,” said Kimberly E. McCullough-Starks, deputy director for the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services.
The MolinaCares COVID scholarship encouraged students to get the vaccine. Also, it allows students to reflect on the pandemic’s effects. Such as the prompt students were given, “How did you adapt to changes during the COVID-19 pandemic?” Then judges rated them based on the creativity of their answers. Finally, and most importantly, all students participating must have received a vaccine.
“We are grateful for the opportunity to help students reach their educational goals, while they protect themselves and their communities against COVID-19,” said Matt Wolf, plan president of Molina Healthcare of Illinois.
Molina Healthcare of Illinois provides government-funded healthcare to Illinois residents through Medicaid and Medicare. In addition, Molina Healthcare, Inc. organizes programs to help disadvantaged people improve their health and community.
