Men’s cross-country and track head coach, Frank Gramarosso, will retire at the end of the semester.
NCC Athletics announced Gramarosso’s retirement on April 4. Gramarosso took over the track head coaching position from the famous Al Carius in 2010, and then cross-country in 2020.
Looking back
Coach Gramarosso, known as Grammy, has been a part of the program for 39 years, both as assistant and head coach. He helped lead the track team to 50 CCIW team championships, 31 outdoor and 19 indoor. On top of which, he also contributed to the 25 Division III national championships.
During his time at NCC, Gramarosso received various coaching awards, both regionally and nationally. He worked with collegiate athletes in all event areas to help them grow.
To top off his long career, Coach Gramarosso became inducted into NCC’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2012.
His impact
Assistant women’s cross-country, and track and field coach Brian Henz ’95, an alum of the men’s program, has nothing but high remarks for his former coach.
“All the lives he’s affected in a positive way over the years is something to look up to as a coach myself, and he has been certainly a steadfast presence for the school and the track and field community,” said Henz.
The future
Gramarosso leaves behind a successful program and a legacy that few can rival. Members of the men’s track team has expressed their sadness to see him leave, but their appreciation for his dedication.
“I think it’s the end of an era, the incoming freshman won’t know what his presence is like and I pity them…I haven’t even had him all four years…yet I can already appreciate having him as a coach.” said distance runner James McGlashon, ’24. “To say ‘he will be missed’ is an understatement, he is fundamental to the success and legacy of our program and college; I don’t think his retirement will change that.”
NCC Athletics has not announced any information regarding a potential future head coach for the program. Any candidates, however, will surely have a high bar to meet.
