B horror films doesn’t stand for boring

With Halloween being just around the corner, what better time to watch horror films. Horror films have existed since the 1800s and have been haunting us since. Though these B horror movies have been around for years, they aren’t always looked at in a good light.

Characteristics of B horror film

In the world of horror films, there are either classics (A films) or the other kind (B films). B films are categorized this way due to lackluster areas within the movie. Whether it be the acting, production, effects or story, there is an aspect that may not be amazing in these movies. Even though these aspects may not be great every single time there is bound to be something for a person to enjoy in these movies. They may be so bad that they are good.

It is very subjective on what is actually a B horror film. No matter where you look, there will be a difference in opinion from websites, reviewers and casual watchers. Some places will list all time classics as B films whereas others will list films like “Sleepaway Camp“, “Killer Klowns From Outer Space” and “Blood Feast“.

Impactful of films

These movies hold high impacts on today’s films and culture. With movies, it helped show that just because movies have a low budget doesn’t mean they can’t succeed. It just helped creators push the envelope of creativity. Examples of these movies are “Night of the Living Dead“, “Evil Dead” and “JawsThese movies show what happens when directors believe there is nothing to lose. Those films either became classics, won awards or received sequels due to success.

These movies were also used to tackle real examples of issues in the real world. “Night of the Living Dead” is a movie that commented on real racial issues through its ending. It was also one of the first movies with an African American protagonist. This movie, despite large denial from director George A Romero, had a huge cultural impact on a pre-1970s crowd. This impact had director Romero double down and include more messages in his sequels “Dawn of the Dead” and “Day of the Dead“.

Inspiring the viewers

Though these films had impact on culture and filmmakers, they also had affects on the people who watched. One very popular example of people being affected is the band The Misfits. They have many songs named after films like these. Not to mention their whole aesthetic is based on horror in this manner. They were able to spread the knowledge of these films and the culture of them. They did this through their music and merchandise, which even people who don’t listen to their music recognize. Not just that, but other bands have been inspired by these movies as well, most notoriously My Chemical Romance.
