On Thursday, Feb. 16, NCC Japan club invited digital artist and Northwestern University professor Derrick Fields to participate in a meeting. As a graphic designer, Fields led those in attendance in a manga drawing activity. NCC’s Japanese professor, Sachie Banks, met with Fields before the event to help prepare for the activity.
Along with the manga activity, attendees also learned how to draw Chile. This is a common form of printing and drawing found across various Pacific cultures.
After the art sessions, students could ask Fields various questions. Many of these students plan on becoming active artists. They received tips and tricks from Fields on how to navigate the job market and promote their own work.
