NCC’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee hosted the annual Chippy’s awards ceremony on Sunday, Apr. 21 in Wentz Concert Hall. The event started with catered food, followed by the ceremony highlighting student-athletes’ success, both athletic and otherwise, during the 2023-24 season. All awards were nominated by coaches and voted on by student athletes.
To begin the ceremony, SAAC President and Triathlon member Hailey Poe explained the prevalence of mental health in sports. She emphasized how NCC athletes are working to break the stigma and support each other. A video showed many NCC athletes speaking about their mental health journeys throughout their athletic career, while in college, and advice they would give to others.
The newest award, the ‘MVC’ or ‘Most Valuable Chippy’, honored one student athlete from each athletic team. SAAC handed out various awards to both men’s and women’s athletes and teams. In total, by the end of the night, they distributed 18 awards. Accolades varied from categories such as Chippys Chipping In, Best Supporting Cardinal, Biggest Upset and many more. Poe, Vice President Sadie Hill and associate athletic trainer Tracy Stephen led the planning of the event along with student representatives on the Chippy’s Committee. This is the third annual Chippy’s ceremony with many more to come in the future.
